Do the New Medicaid Work Requirements Affect You?

Starting January 1, 2027, a new federal law requires some adults on Medicaid to report community engagement activities — commonly known as work requirements — to keep their Medicaid coverage.

Who’s Affected?

Medicaid members ages 19–64 who:

• Are not parents of young children, and
• Do not have certain serious or complex medical conditions

What’s Required?

To maintain coverage, impacted individuals must show at least 80 hours per month of approved activities, such as:

• Working
• Volunteering
• Participating in job training
• Attending school at least part-time

…or earning at least $580 a month. A combination of these activities can also fulfill the requirement.
